Others
The following authors are local to south-east Queensland and have published their first non-fictions books since late 2010, as part of their business strategies. They have freely shared their personal and business transformations with me, and I am delighted to now share them with you. As you read, please note how the very act of publishing has opened doors for them and brought them new and exciting opportunities.
Truly, a BOOK can change EVERYTHING …
Neroli is now a recognised name in creativity in various international platforms; MaryAnne is working beside a leading international expert and selling books across the globe; James’ and Leisa’s personal and spiritual transformations because of writing their book are very moving indeed, and their book is impacting far beyond their expectations.
Enjoy!!
Neroli Makim, acclaimed artist, author and speaker on creativity. Author of ‘Your Inner Knowing – Unlocking the Secrets to Creative Success’
‘After publishing my first book in late 2010, I landed a weekly column writing for Yaro Starak’s online publication, Entrepreneurs-Journey.com, with an international readership of over 100,000. I immediately became a recognized authority on creativity, building a relationship with readers, promoting my products and services, and building my subscribers list. I also use the column as a platform to interview amazing individuals who I would not have had a chance of booking previously.
I have been invited to join a speakers’ bureau which represents the likes of Sir Richard Branson, Jimmy Carter, Lance Armstrong, Sir Bob Geldof and more, so the opportunity to increase my public profile though association is fantastic.
Another astounding outcome is the inclusion in an upcoming book on creativity: not just any book, but a book authored by Sir Ken Robinson, considered the world’s foremost expert on creativity. More than anyone in the world, he’s the one person I would love my own work on creativity to be associated with. If all goes to plan, I’ll be in Sir Ken’s next book, due out in July 2011.’ (www.yourcreativesuccess.com)
MaryAnne Leighton, equine authority, writer and author of ‘Equine Emergency Rescue’
‘Within two months of the November 2010 launch, ‘Equine Emergency Rescue’ became the official training manual for all Large Animal Rescue training for SES volunteers, RSPCA Inspectors, equine veterinarians, Fire and Rescue personnel and horse owners.
I am presenting the dangers of rescuing trapped horses and other large animals to the RSPCA NSW annual conference in September 2011, where I will demonstrate rescue techniques with Dr Rebecca Gimenez of America, one of the world’s leading proponents of technical large animal emergency rescue. Together we will also conduct four two-day training courses in Queensland, New South Wales and South Australia, and a two-day instructors’ workshop where every attendee will receive a copy of my book.
Other successes:
>> demonstrating rescue techniques at the four-day horse expo, Equitana Sydney
>> negotiating to sell copies of my book at another horse expo in Shanghai, China in November 2011
>> eight horse companies and organisations now retail my book
>> my articles on rescue are published in nine Australian magazines
>> my books are sold in Australia, New Zealand, the UK, USA, Greece, and hoping to break into China at the end of 2011.
I am now about to enter Phase 2 of my marketing plan.’

Leisa Millar and James Ketub: natural therapists and authors of ‘The way of the natural therapist’
‘Whilst our book, The Way of the Natural Therapist, was intended for other therapists/health practitioners, it was actually the book we needed to read ourselves, so in this way the process of self-publishing was quite profound and impacted our life deeply.
Basically, the book manifested as a response to our own need. If we didn’t take the risk to self-publish and fund the book ourselves, we would have missed the opportunity to learn and grow. The main lesson for us from the whole experience is that whatever we write needs to first and foremost help ourselves to grow and evolve. Otherwise our writing has no spirit and aliveness.
How can we expect a book to benefit others when it doesn?t benefit ourselves first? When we get a new idea for a book or new piece of writing, we test it to check whether it will help us to transform in some way. If not, we no longer follow through on it or we park it aside for a time when it may be more appropriate. This lesson has given us greater clarity around what is calling to be written at any given time.
Writing and self-publishing our book has led to extensive internal shifts and transformations, rather than worldly success and material gain (well not yet that is!). The most powerful consequence of these internal changes is that they have inspired us to make changes in the way we live our life, where we focus our time, what our goals are and what our life vision is. This has been where the real fruits of our labour have ripened and we now feel so much more on the right path.
The biggest change we have made is to cease our respective therapy practices and focus completely on writing. This was quite a daunting decision, but one that was more aligned with our hearts calling, our innate gifts and our ideal way to serve others. Self-publishing has given us the confidence that we can do anything we set our minds to achieve and if our work is driven by passion, purpose and inspiration then this work will touch others in a meaningful way.
As a result of our book, an opportunity arose to be interviewed on Krishna Everson’s “Healthy Marketing Guide” teleseminar series. For this interview we decided to write up 10 key insights and wisdom from the book that could be used by therapists to find success in their therapy practice. What we didn?t expect as a result of writing these 10 key insights was that it would then form the foundation for a new short book which we decided to share for free on the Internet. One thing naturally led to the other and it is still leading us to other adventures including transforming the new short book into a book that is applicable for everyone and not just therapists. We also have a friend who wants to convert this new book into a co-written seminar/paper for the medical world. So we never know where life is going to take us now as a result of our first self-published book, which is exciting and daunting all at the same time!!’ www.thewayofthenaturaltherapist.com
